Laser toning treatment in Kollam for even, brighter skin

Laser toning uses a low energy Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, passed over the skin in several gentle passes, to break down excess melanin and calm patchy pigmentation, with no topical solution and next to no downtime.

It’s the treatment Dr. Swathy Krishna reaches for when pigmentation or melasma is the actual problem, rather than oiliness or texture. Where a carbon facial uses a carbon mask to work on pores and shine, laser toning skips the mask and goes straight after the pigment itself, one careful pass at a time.

    What is laser toning?

The same 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser used in a few of TLC Skyn’s other treatments is set to a much lower energy here and passed over the whole face in multiple quick passes, nothing applied to the skin first. The light targets melanin directly, breaking it into smaller particles your body clears naturally over the following weeks, with a small collagen boost along the way. It’s a different approach to a chemical peel, which works by controlled surface shedding rather than targeting pigment cells.

    Who is this for?

Laser toning tends to help most with melasma, sun-triggered pigmentation, patchy dullness or a complexion that has gone uneven over time. If tanning is the main issue rather than deeper pigment, a simpler treatment might get you there faster. Melasma in particular is stubborn and prone to returning, so most people get better, longer-lasting results when laser toning is paired with a proper skincare plan rather than used on its own.

    How the treatment works

A session takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Some clinics run this weekly, but the dermatology literature has linked frequent, closely spaced sessions with a small risk of patchy light spots that don’t always fade. Dr. Swathy Krishna spaces sessions roughly two weeks apart with a larger spot size instead, which the evidence suggests is safer without giving up much in results. Most people need six to eight sessions before pigmentation visibly settles.

    What to expect

You’ll feel a light snapping or tingling as the laser passes over, and most people don’t need anything to numb the skin first since the energy is so low. There might be some pinkness for an hour or two afterward, nothing that stops you going straight back to your day. Sunscreen is not optional here. UV exposure is one of the biggest triggers for melasma and pigmentation to come straight back, so daily SPF becomes part of the treatment, not just an afterthought.

    Why choose TLC Skyn

Dr. Swathy Krishna, MBBS, DDVL, FAGE, plans the fluence and spacing for every laser toning course herself rather than running a fixed weekly package, which matters given how sensitive this treatment is to overuse. She has a particular interest in aesthetics and lasers, and TLC Skyn’s dual dermatology and plastic surgery setup with Dr. Anoop G Mohan means more complex pigmentation concerns can be handled without a referral elsewhere. Our melasma treatment guide goes into more detail on how we build a full plan around this.

Cost of laser toning in Kollam

Cost depends on how many sessions your skin needs and whether it’s combined with topical treatment or a peel, so we don’t post a flat number online. Get in touch and we’ll work out a realistic plan and price once Dr. Swathy Krishna has actually seen your pigmentation.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is laser toning painful?

Most people feel a mild snap or tingle, nothing that needs numbing cream.

How is it different from a carbon facial?

No carbon mask here, it’s the laser alone, working on pigment rather than pores or oil.

How many sessions will I need?

Usually six to eight, spaced about two weeks apart.

Does it get rid of melasma completely?

It lightens and manages it well, but melasma tends to return without ongoing sun protection and skincare.

Is it safe for darker or Indian skin tones?

Yes, when the fluence and spacing are managed carefully by a dermatologist.

    What should I avoid afterward?

Skipping sunscreen, that’s the one thing that undoes progress fastest.
